This year my hall mate, Penny Erickson and I focused on creating and using valuable videos in our classrooms for our school wide PD. As a part of our Individualized Professional Development we presented to other staff members. These are the videos I used for my presentation and the document Penny used.

Talent Show Video

My daughter is in love with the song Yakety Yak. She decided she wanted to sing it for her school talent show. We recently worked to make a background video that she could sing to. Here is the final product. I think it turned out cute.

My newest technology adventures!

Our school recently gave a Chrome Book cart with 30 Chrome books to our exploratory team to share. As a result, this Microsoft Word addict decided it was time to dive into google more and I registered for a class called Google Classroom Applications. I figured I would share my learning journey along the way.

I learned to use Quicktime to screen cast. It was quite simple, but took some time to play around and get the settings just right. I clicked Quicktime>File>New Screen Recording. I turned the volume all the way down and clicked the arrow to the right of the record button to say I wanted mouse clicks and to use the built in microphone. Once I hit record I had to pick which portion of the screen I wanted to record or simply click to record the entire screen. To stop recording you click the icon at the top of your screen. Note to self, do not start talking right away and given plenty of time to hit stop after you've said the last thing you want to say or you risk being cut off. If it does there is a feature in Quicktime that allows you to trim your video.

The screen cast video shows what I've learned about revision history in google. I also learned about Draftback. This is a chrome extension that allows you to view in video format the changes to a document as they happen.

PS-Ever learn something cool and completely forget how you've done it? Yep! More times than I'd like to admit. Here is a screen cast to remind myself later how I embedded that cool video.

My technology trials are real!

Ever hate it when technology doesn't go your way? I wanted to use a new app for a Fashion Show project in class. Simple right? I used the Chatterpix kids app. I quickly took pictures during a class to model the project. Later I placed the pictures into Video Editor. It worked great, but you must rate them to be able to add more than 2 video sections. I did and finished a 1 minute video. Hmmmm, next problem...how to embed into my website? I didn't really want my students work on Youtube or Facebook. I wanted a little more protection for them than that. I put the videos into Splice, iMovie and Quicktime neither offered a good solution. But I did decide that dropping the Chatterpix videos directly into iMovee would be easier than using the Video Editor. I took my quicktime video, easily sent it to YouTube using my google account. I made the video public long enough to get an embed code. Quickly I made it private again and embedded it to my site. Yay me! Not so fast! It finished playing and images popped up that I was not interested in bringing into my classroom. My solution you ask? Viewpure! I typed the url into the website and it filtered out everything except for my video. The drawback? No embed code. After messing around a while and debating on how to solve the problem I decided to look closely at the html code. Yes! There it was, the url in the middle of the embed code. I replaced the YouTube url with the Viewpure url and the results were exactly what I wanted.
